The Memorial West Republican Women’s group held a Sheriff forum February 2,, 2012 to discuss the credentials of the Sheriff Candidates on the Republican Ticket. Carl Pittman was first to again plead his case and reminded us yet again of his endorsement by the toughest Sheriff in the Nation, Joe Arpaio. If you consider that this endorsement was obtained well before more qualified candidates threw their proverbial hats in the race and Carl Pittman’s history of domestic violence, this is pretty insignificant in the eyes of most voters in “TEXAS.” Carl Pittman, from appearances, seems to tout image without substance, which might make sense given his lack of management experience with anything remotely resembling the size of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Budget. The ladies of the forum were clearly unimpressed and seemed to leave with no greater understanding of his platform that they’ve had this past 34 months, as Pittman limps along in the red.

Paul Day spoke next and I honestly was unaware he was still in the race. Day first ran in 1992 and has been on the campaign trail longer than Pittman, yet few people know anything about him or his plans for an administration under his leadership. My guess, not going to happen. What truly hurts Day is his Democratic stance until his became a “born again” Christian and took an about face, which I certainly applaud him for because he supports the issues I certainly do. The biggest problem most see with Day is that he spends almost no time outlining what being a Sheriff would look like with Day at the helm. Instead, he has chosen the campaign as a platform to continually preach, as if God has called him to preach the Word while he has 15 minutes of fame. Don’t get me wrong, I love things of the Spirit and am a believer in every way, but there is a time and a place for it, and he is not winning constituents by dodging relevant issues to preach.

Louis Guthrie was next. With Guthrie coming out of straw polls with an estimated 77% of the Republican vote in Harris County, Louis Guthrie is the clear front runner in this race and in my opinion, will be the Republican choice during the primaries. He has been deemed a person who knows the Sheriff’s Department better than any Candidate hands down and confronts the issues key to successfully manning the ship, unlike his peers. Louis is not just an officer but a businessman, who knows how to budget and has specific agendas for his administration that he delivers to the crowd in a powerful, eloquent way unlike any of the competition. You can find a specific roll out of his very impressive fiscal plans to clean up the mess created by Garcia on his website and in every speech most have seen to date. He is polished but not because he’s a politician–far from it. Louis Guthrie is genuine because he has stuck to his convictions his entire life, a life long republican who has voted with conviction since the age of 18. The issues are important to him and the message is loud and clear. I never cease to be impressed with his wealth of knowledge, skill and clear ability to lead unlike the others. It should be noted that Pittman admitted in a debate at the Cherry Tree Republican Women’s forum that the first time he’s ever voted period was 2011–shocking for a 50 year old man. A 180 from Guthrie, indeed. Louis is reported to be the best at fundraising and he simply has a magnetism that voters like because it’s real. Louis has taken heat for his convictions and doesn’t apologize. I like that.

Ruben Monzon was next to “wow” the voters. His credential were certainly impressive, serving in key positions within the Drug Enforcement Agency, a key issue in Harris County given the Los Zetas infiltration and drugs entering the County. Louis Guthrie conducted a very sophisticated marijuana bust in his jurisdiction, Liberty County, just a few weeks ago, connected to Los Zetas, from all appearances. Monzon served in key positions and has connections with the Bush family. He managed a large number of offices and an estimated 500 employees. He is by all means skilled at the positions he has held but has no experience running any division of the Sheriff’s office, leading one to question why he is in this race and the remote possibility of clinching the nomination.

Brian Steinocher spoke next. Brian has been with the Sheriff’s department for nineteen years, but had almost no plans for his promise to “take back the streets” with public knowledge that he has little to no funds to carry him through a vague campaign and win. People were puzzled as he spoke much like a cheerleader for one minute and left the podium.

The last Candidate to speak was Harold Heuszel. Harold knows what’s going on at the Sheriff’s office and is competitive with Louis Guthrie, but most think he is not able to beat Guthrie and the straw polls are good evidence that he cannot. Harold’s first contact with HCSO was in 1991 when he set up a “crime watch” for his neighborhood. He then joined as a reserve officer and later moved up as a recovery diver. Heuszel spent nineteen and a half years with HCSO, working his way up to assistant chief of volunteers. As the forum ended, it was clear in the minds of most that the only feasible candidates are Louis Guthrie and Howard Hueszel.

Monzon and Pittman are still hanging by a thread, but trust, me, once the public knows the real Pittman, his history of domestic violence and instability (moving 8 times in 10 years, with reports that some of these moves were evictions), he’s done. Best of luck to all, but most, my preference, Louis Guthrie, whom I’ve little doubt will be Harris County’s 2012 Sheriff. Were it not so, Sheriff Garcia wouldn’t be trying with all of his might to hide documents from Louis and bury the truth on Pittman until the primaries passed. I guarantee in the snowball’s chance in Hell Pittman pulls it off, Garcia finds those documents. But if Guthrie has much to say about it, he’s going to cough them up now.

I find it more than a bit amusing that after writing only one feature on Sheriff Adrian Garcia, entitled, “Where’s Waldo?” that I was deemed an expert on Waldo by Klout. At any rate, now we know where he is. I also find it amusing that Klout deems me and our next Sheriff, Louis Guthrie, to be experts on “Sheriff,” but not the reigning Sheriff Adrian Garcia. He has been deemed an expert at baseball (look where he is) and spirituality. Which all proves my point. Garcia needs to move on down the road and step aside so that someone actually interested in being our Sheriff (and capable of doing it well) can clean up the mess and get the HCSO running in a financially streamlined way. Right now, Adrian has more high paid buddies in exec seats behind a desk than deputies on patrol. (proportionately). He is constantly seeking more money from the Commissioner because he can’t manage the funds he has. It should be noted that the HCSO has the third largest budget in Texas and the Department is the 4th largest in the Country. No small job, but he is not performing and ethics should be ringing a large bell in your head right now. The Where’s Waldo feature asked where are all of the articles on his regime’s back scratching and ethics problems. We know now. Alan Bernstein is his right hand, coming to Adrian’s rescue after practically running the Houston slanted Chronicle. Some suspect Bernstein still has his password, but we all believe his influence hasn’t left the Chronicle’s Garcia spin. I challenge you to find articles revealing Waldo’s skeletons. You won’t find many. Maybe once the changing of the guard passes in November, you might be able to trust the only paper in the 4th largest City in the Nation! You can find more reliable scoop on Twitter and FB, guys! Enjoy the game, Adrian.

As I perused photographs of Mitt Romney, it was actually quite fun. At least 1/3 of them had a completely sarcastic, eye-rolling, lol, point the finger, go on th attack on your opponent with biting sarcasm. I couldn’t help but to cringe imagining him blow his cool as Head of State. But, I admit that would be preferable to Obama bowing down, licking the floor to a Saudi King..or apologizing for America! On behalf of America, I apologize for the tragic misfire Barack Obama has become. Not like we didn’t know it would happen before he was even elected. But Romney is a bomb waiting to explode in a foreign dignitary’s face. But back to the duplicity. I found this Ask Mitt Anything photo and couldn’t help but to lol. I thought “and what shall the answer be,” knowing full well, it depends on who’s asking the questions. I really have a hard time believing that anyone would support this two faced lying, arrogant, RINO. The only thing be could potentially bring to the table is knowing how to manage the budget and get us out of this hole Obama dug. But caution…money and power is a dangerous combination. I originally thought this Biblical, but Ghandi actually said it. There are several things that will destroy us: POLITICS without PRINCIPLE…knowledge without character, [and]Business without morality, among other things. The Bible does speak on the matter many times and essentially sums says that money is a multiplier. It is a multiplier of a man’s character and allow us to see it with it. We’ve seen both Mitt and Obama’s. Sometimes I believe we’ve already been destroyed. Obama gave us a lasting blow. All we need now is another …..to finish us off. Four more years of Obama would do it. Please God no! But Mitt isn’t really an improvement. At least we know one thing, he is far too arrogant to bow down to anyone.

Every time I have the opportunity to read about Ted Cruz and see his steadfast commitment to solid Conservative values, I like him even more. He is a man of high moral character and principled.for those are not aware of Ted Cruz’s biography and values, please visit http://www.tedcruz.org. His proven record speaks for itself. I was particularly moved by the values he lists because unlike flip-flopping politicians (Mitt), catering to the audience whose attention they have garnered, Ted Cruz simply seems SOLID to me. If I had one word to describe my assessment of Cruz, it would be soliD. As I perused his stated values, I found myself agreeing with them all. Free market economy, pro-life, 2nd Amendment, securing the borders, energy indepence, Deterring frivolous lawsuits, and preserving traditional marriage, while simultaneously, fighting bigotry and hate crimes. Note to Ted: if when elected, you amend the IDEA of 2004, removing school districts’ ability to Bankrupt families of Special Needs Children in a very discriminatory system that devalues and deprives these children of an education, you’d have a cheerleader in your corner! But I’ll be cheering nonetheless. Vote Ted Cruz for Senate!

The Texas Tea Party / Harris County Deputies Organization conducted a straw poll on Candidates running for various offices and among the Sheriff’s many Candidates still hanging in there against tremendous odds, Louis T. Guthrie was estimated to have approximately 77% of the Republican voters decidedly in his corner for the primaries. If you have attended even one of the debates where the candidates have addressed the issues (well at least a few have with any level of competence, with Guthrie and Hueszel estimated to clearly know the issues and others either missing the target entirely, in outer space, or prancing around much like a peacock to show their impressive feathers [begins with a P] but no substance).

While some argue that the straw poll is not as scientific as they would prefer, I believe this is nothing but grasping at straws on the part of Candidates who simply do not see that the battle is over for them. When the dust settles, most have no doubt, Louis Guthrie will be the Republican nominee against Garcia. Then we’ll see Garcia’s Christian claws come out. But no reason to fear voters. If you look hard enough, you will see a Garcia administration that is smoke and mirrors and anything but transparency. With Guthrie, what you see is what you get and most like what they see. Let’s just hope voters look hard for what’s there. I assure you that it is not hard to find and with any luck, we’ll be posting it on this website.

It’s been quite a wild ride for Newt Gingrich in the Republican Primaries. To the surprise of many, Newt enjoyed a landslide victory over old Mitty in South Carolina. I am thrilled about the win, as a Tea Party Republican! Support for Gingrich is growing. It’s a bit odd given his campaign members resigning en masse. Much like a roller coaster, he has survived the downs and is riding high. It remains to be seen if Newt can clinch the nomination, but I say Go Newt! If the numbers stand as they did in South Carolina with more than 12 point lead, clinching voters over 30 who make less than $200k and are republican, conservative, even independent to some degree (albeit right bent), you can bet Newt will take The Sunny State, despite Krist’s endorsement of Mitty. With almost a double digit estimated lead going into Florida polls and so many voters over 65, you can almost bet he’s got Florida. And so goes the domino effect? I love Politjim’s blog, as he has the facts and figures to back up every argument he makes, much like KLSouth’s Furthermore blog. KL is a brilliant investment banker, political historian, who has studied every President’s fiscal policies and stats dating back to Calvin Coolidge and beyond. He makes a strong case and backs it up. Where did I find such weath? Twitter! The Secret Underworld as I call it! Intelligent folks down there! Join us! And Go Newt!

The media reports that Newt’s victory of Mitt Romney in South Carolina, historic indeed, has upset Mitty, quite a bit. It has boosted a fiery debate that is certain to bring on the mudslinging, as if it hasn’t already been slung all over Twitter! Now it seems that Mitty’s front runner status is very questionable. Santorum is said to be in 3rd place and Ron Paul dead last. Most attribute Newt’s landslide win to the evangelic vote, hoping to bring back a solid republican base that has long been fractured. Newt stated very eloquently that “it’s not that I’m a good debater, but rather, “it’s that I articulate the deepest-felt values of the American people.” As for me, I would agree.

Not than any candidate has been less than wealthy or among the 1%, so the $3 million he made in 2010 is hardly relevant in my eyes. In his begrudging but necessary congratulation speech, Romney did the standard congrats, but not without a few “Mitty” jabs that he’s so famous for. Personally, I find it funny that his ego is so absolutely huge, he can’t stand a few butt whippings. I’d like to use a more explicit word, but for the evangelicals and I’m one of them, I’ll refrain. Good job Newt! Take it all the way!
